Comparison between Cilia and Flagella

Cilia and Flagella: Major differences
Cilia
Flagella
1.      They are very small sized (5-10µ long).
They are very longer (about 150µ long).
2.      Their number per cell range from 300 to 14000, occurring all over the cell surface.
Number is very less, usually 1-4 per cell.
3.      They beat in a coordinated rhythm either simultaneously (synchronous) or one after the other (metachronic).
They beat independent of each other.
4.      They help in locomotion, feeding circulation, aeration, etc.
They help in locomotion only.

- #51 Summary Of Gas Exchange
1 Multicellular organisms often have surfaces that are specialised to allow exchange of gases to take place between their bodies and the environment. Alveoli in the lungs form the gas exchange surface in mammals.  2 In the human...

- # 39 The Need For Transport Systems In A Multicellular Organism
The transport system enables the rapid delivery of nutrients and O2 to as well as the removal of metabolic waste products (including CO2) from all cells of the body for survival. All cells need to take in substances from their...

- I'll Karyote On Homeostasis And Organization Further
Cell organization v. homeostasis -cell homeostasis is where there is appropriate internal environment. The plasma membrane forms a cytoplasmic compartment, which maintains homeostasis by allowing cells to exchange materials with their environment. Organelles...

- Evolving A Second Job
Biology concepts ? protein moonlighting, undulipodia, evolution, basal body, centriole, GAPDH, intraflagellar transport Today?s post is on a multitasking cell structure. This would make Alton Brown proud, since he hates tools that do only one thing....

- A Tale Of Two Tails
Biology concepts ? flagella, bacteria, prokaryotes, eukaryotes, undulipodia, axoneme, basal body, centriole Everyone has the dream where you show up for a class that you didn?t know was on your schedule, only to be having a test. But in second place...
