Origin
??????/Cypros(=Cyprus island) probably from the Greek word for cypress (cyparissos/??????????) or for henna plant (cypros/??????). The earliest attested reference was written in Linear B syllabic script (KU-PI-RI-JO/Cypriot). In Bronze Age the island was known as Alasia (or Alashiya). In ancient times  the word was appeared in Homeric epic poes and later passed to Latin language as cypriumsynonymous to copper because the element was principally mined in Cyprus.
