Coined : Hippocrates (460 BC- 370 BC) was the first physician to accurately described the symptoms of pneumonia although he mentioned that pneumonia as a disease ?named by the ancients?. Maimonides (1138-1204 AD) observed that ?the basic symptoms of pneumonia are: acute fever, sticking (pleuritic) pain in the side, short rapid breaths, serrated pulse and cough?. Bacteria were first seen in the airways of individuals who died from pneumonia by Edwin Klebs in 1875.
