In which case it is better to use a pyramid of biomass, the pyramid shape is maintained.
Indeed the pyramid of biomass relates to a pyramid of energy. Each trophic level uses energy and energy is "lost" to the surroundings as heat. The diagram below illustrates that only about 10% of the energy actually gets transferred from one trophic level to the next.
