Glycogen is the storage form of carbohydrate for virtually every organism from yeast to primates and for mammalian tissues the major depots located in muscle and liver. The term of glycagen was coined in the 1850s by French physiologist Claude Bernard.
Definition
Glycogenesis is the anabolic pathway of glycogen(polysaccharide) synthesis, in which glucose molecules are added to chains of glycogen for storage. If glucose and ATP are present in relatively high amounts, then the excess of insulin promotes the glucose conversion into glycogen for storage in liver and muscle cells.
