Definition
The epiglottis is a flap is a flaplike projection that attached to the entrance of the larynx at the base of the tongue. Epiglottis during breathing lies completely within the pharynx while during the swallowing process it covers the trachea in order to prevent food and drink from entering the respiratory system.
