Coined: In 1912 by Swiss psychiatrist Paul Bleuler (1857-1939) concerning two autistic psychopaths.  American psychiatrist Leo Kanner(1896-1981) and Austrian pediatrician Hans Asperger (1906-1980)  used the term in its modern sense in English

Definition:
Autism is a  developmental disability that affects  the way in which people understand and react to the world around them such as a lack of understanding and awareness of other people's emotions and feelings. Autism is often referred to as a "spectrum disorder," meaning that the symptoms of autism can present themselves in a variety of combinations, ranging from  mild to quite severe.
