Functions
Co-enzyme for the synthesis of proteins which are essential for formation and maturation of RBCs.
Promotes synthesis of thymidilic acid and DNA.
Formation and maturation of RBCs.
Formation of myelin sheath.
Deficiency
Macrocytic (megaloblastic) anaemia.
Sprue (mouth ulceration in man).
Pernicious anaemia.
Degeneration of spinal cord leading to ataxia and paralysis.
