Origin: Anc Greek
?????/telos(=end)
+?????/meros(=part)
Coined/History
In 1938 by Hermann J. Muller, who believed that telocentric chromosomes with centromere terminally located, could not exist in nature. According to Muller?s hypothesis, a chromosome must be quarded by a telomere at both ends to maintain its integrity during cell division.
Definition
Telemeres are nucleoprotein structures consisting of repetitive TTAGGG sequences terminate in a 3; single-stranded G-rich overhang. Telomeres are maintained by the enzyme telomerase.

Q: Compare And Contrast The Prokaryotic And Eukaryotic Genomes
The eukaryotic genome is diploid but the prokaryotic genome is haploid. The eukaryotic genome has multiple origins of replication but the prokaryotic genome has only one origin of replication. The eukaryotic genome may have more than one chromosome but...

How Are Genes And Other Sequences Distributed In The Genome?
KEY CONCEPTS:Repeated sequences (present in more than one copy) account for >50% of the human genome. The great bulk of repeated sequences consist of copies of nonfunctional transposons. There are many duplications of large chromosome regions.Are...
