In November 0f 1704 the French Mathematician Pierre Varignon (1654-1722), described a new instrument for measuring the air pressure which named ?manometer?  because it was capable to measure scarcity of a gas: ???et l?appelle manomètre, c?est-à-dire mesure de la raréfaction?. .  Later this instrument was used to measure liquids.

 A manometer is a device to measure pressure in a fluid  or a gas. Kinds of manometers are sphygnomanometer and areaneroid manometer.
