Definition
A collection of blood in an organ, space, or tissue outside the blood vessels. Hematomas cause swelling and inflammation with common complication the risk of infection. Hematoma differs from ecchymosis (blood leacing but only just under the skin) and from hemorrhage (active bleeding).
