Grawitz coined the term angio-myo-lipoma der niere in 1900 to accurately describe this tumor for the first time.

Definition
Angiomyolipoma is the most common benign tumour of the kidney consisting  mainly by adipose tissue, smooth muscle cells and vascular tissue. Small lesions are asympomatic and the most common symptom is the abdominal pain and shock due to haemorrhage  The incidence of angiomyolipoma is usually quoted as less than 1% of surgically excited renal tumours.
